myth/magick: Part of a New Ecosystem of Skincare
September 15, 2020
Chicago — myth/magick (verbalized as Myth or Magick) introduces a new line of natural skincare products that go hand in hand with guided meditation tracks to encourage beauty inside and out. The self-funded founders deliver their first collection called The Divine Trio. It consists of a potent oil (used on the face or hairline) loaded with 1000MG of non-psychoactive CBD called Earth Oil, a powerful moisturizer with peptides, Hyaluronic Acid, Jojoba Oil and Horsetail extract titled Glow Worthy Ultra-Rich Moisturizer and a gentle pH balanced facial cleanser known as Moon Water with peptides, rosehip oil and soothing lavender water. All products in the collection are paraben-free, sulfate-free, & silicone-free. The collection is set to release in October.
Founders Ariana Jones and Denyse Walls designed this brand because of the need to provide clean and effective products for people of color. A study from the environmental working group (EWG) found that over 75% of products marketed to Black women include ingredients classified as toxic compared to 60% of products marketed to the general population. Co-founder, Denyse Walls says “The new release from myth/magick serves as a huge achievement from the two of us to develop products that provide the ultimate glow up while also nourishing and hydrating the skin with non-toxic chemicals.”
Hero products Earth Oil and Glow Worthy (moisturizer) can be used separately; however together, they provide a powerful overnight reset to stressed, dry skin. The CBD in Earth Oil is a hydrator and alongside MCT oil, absorbs into the skin quickly to soothe stress and retain moisture. Earth Oil mixes into your facial moisturizer or can be used along the hairline to amplify the hydration and anti-inflammatory properties of CBD. Earth Oil is evaluated for integrity of sustainably-sourced ingredients. It is US-grown and cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, alcohol-free, free of scent, coloring and additives.
The co-founders have an inspiring back-story as they have been best friends since attending Pomona College. They came together to build this business after experiencing loss, anxiety and realizing that they needed to prioritize mental as well as physical health. Co-founder, Ariana Jones says “we leaned on our community and each other throughout this entire process. It was a beautiful showing of what support can do for new entrepreneurs.”
myth/magick (verbalized as Myth or Magick) is a line of natural skincare products that transforms the skincare experience with a regimen that is more meditative than “routine.” Set your intention, choose your product, follow along with guided mediation and enjoy an experience that contributes to beauty both inside and out. Research has shown that historically, women of color are disproportionately exposed to toxic chemicals and that beauty products are one of the sources of that exposure. myth/magick is part of a new ecosystem of skincare created by women of color, with health at the forefront of everything that they do.
